Mount Kinabalu National Park – City Video Guide

The Kinabalu National Park is located in the
Malaysian state of Sabah, on the island of Borneo. Located approximately 90 kilometers northeast
of the region’s capital, Kota Kinabalu, the park is dominated by Mount
Kinabalu, the largest mountain in Malaysia and one of the most spectacular and accessible
peaks in the world. Kinabalu National Park was declared a World
Heritage Site in the year 2000 in recognition of the area’s biological significance
and beauty. The diversity of species within the park is
truly staggering. Kinabalu traverses four separate climatic
zones, and within one day, visitors can have breakfast in the lowland
rainforest, have lunch in a cloud forest, and enjoy a spectacular sunset dinner in a
sub-alpine meadow. Mount Kinabalu is the highest climber-friendly
mountain in Asia, and the journey to the summit and back takes
two days for those of moderate fitness. Rest huts with fresh water are spaced at convenient
intervals along the climbing route, while a comfortable lodge provides hot showers,
meals, and overnight accommodation. Climbers are rewarded with the unforgettable
sight of a sunrise above the clouds at over 4 kilometers above
sea level. Those not keen on heights can still experience
the mountain’s leafy treasures by taking the botanical walk near the park
headquarters, while numerous vantage points throughout the
park allow guests to marvel at the mountain’s ever-changing moods. Often shrouded in ethereal mist and otherworldly
cloud formations, it’s easy to see why locals have long referred
to Kinabalu as the ‘Revered Home of the Spirits’.
