This Is How We Do It – Montell Jordan (Jazz Style Cover) Postmodern Jukebox ft. David Simmons, Jr.

This is how we do it, it’s Friday night and I feel alright the party’s here on the West side So I reach for my 40 and I turn it up
Designated driver take the keys to my truck Hit the shore ’cause I’m faded
Honeys in the street say, “Monty, yo we made it!” It feels so good in my hood tonight
The summertime skirts and the guys in Kani All the gang bangers forgot about the drive-by
You gotta get your groove on, before you go get paid So tip up your cup and throw your hands up
And let me hear the party say I’m kinda buzzed and it’s all because South Central does it like nobody does To all my neighbors you got much flavor Let’s flip the track, bring the old school back This is how we do it, all hands are in the air
And wave them from here to there If you’re an O.G. Mack or a wanna-be player
You see the hood’s been good to me Ever since I was a lower-case G
But now I’m a big G, the girls see I got the money hundred dollar bills y’all If you were from where I’m from then you would know That I gotta get mine in a big black truck You can get yours in a ’64 Whatever it is, the party’s underway so tip up your cup and throw your hands up and let me hear the party say I’m kinda buzzed, it’s all because South Central does it like nobody does To all my neighbors you got much flavor Let’s flip the track, bring the old school back Once upon a time in ’94
David Simmons made no money and life sure was slow All they said was 6 foot he stood
And people thought the music that he made was goo There lived a D.J. And Scott was his name
He came up to David, this is what he said You and OG are gonna make some cash
Sell a million records and we’ll make in a dash I’m kinda buzzed it’s all because South Central does it like nobody does, nobody does To all my neighbors you got much flavor Let’s flip the track, bring the old school back This is how we do it (x4)

  1. It's kinda cool how the lighting design for this video TOTALLY makes DSJr look like his performance is green screened, but then the dancers come in and have shadows on the floor and do background foreground swaps and prove that it's not green screened.

  2. As I open this video, an older coworker comes in and asks what I'm giggling about. I show her, and then she asked for the link to the whole channel

  3. Claps for all the throwbacks. Dre, Soul II Soul, Nate Dogg's flow from Regulate, Rakim, and that BBD fill at the end. Another great cover ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

  4. Yeah, the fact that there's no BG "This is how we do it" is not how they should have done it.
Like seriously, I don't know the actual lyrics to this song, but I know the repeated "This is how we do it" in the bg. We ALL know that. And it's not in here, why?

  5. Can you just imagine taking songs from 80s 90s 2000s and travel back in time to 1920s 30s or so forth.Man that will be one hell a great time to dance and drink

  6. I'm so glad that the folks on here can almost always sing. This for example, as has sometimes been the case here, is notably better than the original.

  7. Just made my day. Thank you. Wonderful. The band the singer the dancers. Great artists all of you. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿค—

  8. His voice is beautiful, so weโ€™re the women, and I love the arrangement. I wish they hadnโ€™t done the choreo though. Everyone was moving at different times and it distracted me from the music. If youโ€™re going to put in choreo make sure everybody is on the same beat.

  9. Love the music. Incredible musicians and very skillful arranging. Now, those dancers need some work. They were not together at all which was distracting. Didn't seem like a lot of effort was put into practicing that dance routine. Put in a tap dancer and call it a day.

  10. Hold on while I pour my โ€œ40โ€ circa 1994 into my wine glass…..man I cannot get enough of Postmodern Jukebox!!

  12. Pretty sad rendition. This song could have been so much better if you had Robyn Adele Anderson (or various artist from "Season One") sing it. I'm sorry Scott, but "Season Two" has been a major letdown. So much so, that I really have no desire to go see any of your live shows. I truly hope you can find your way, and get back to the quality I loved. I once flew my mother and sister from NM and CA to New York to see your show (not to mention a few trips in the southwest on my own), but I'd be hard pressed to buy tickets to a PMJ show at a local theater given your recent repertoire.

  13. Very nicely done! Great vocals, and a delightful sax solo from Sami (on that basis alone, she's now my second-favorite PMJ saxophonist).

(It did seem to me that the Fly Girls needed just a tad more rehearsal, but I doubt that that's their fault. There's still clearly ample talent there.)

  14. Didn't go to church & I still feel the spirit ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

  15. Hey! David! I really enjoyed his singing on the Terrell Show! ๐ŸŽค ๐ŸŽถ And he sounds terrific in this video. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ

  16. Yet another great cover! Thank you, again.
Wishing for something, anything, from Kate Bush works in the near future. Arrangements could be quite challenging -.^

  17. Loved this! Once again Scott, PMJ knocks it out! Would love to see more of David Simmons! And WOW Sami Shapiro!!!! Dave Coz watch out! Please more David and Sami!!!

  18. Girl in the back right danced so cute and always smiled like being part of that performance is the one thing she always wanted to do I can't
